gorwydd caerphillyOur cheese of the week is the award winning Gorwydd Caerphilly.

Gorwydd Caerphilly is the recent Gold medal winner at this years British Cheese Awards for Traditional Caerphilly.

Made by Todd, Maugan and Kim Trethowan in  Llanddewi Brefi, Ceredigion, Gorwydd Caerphilly has a hard, brown/grey rind that gives way to a creamy yellow coloured interior.

Its earthy mushroomy flavour is sublime, with a crumbly centre that gets softer and stronger toward the rind. The Trethowans use unpasteurised cows milk and traditional animal rennet to make the cheese.
